Past Simple



THE SIMPLE PAST TENSE.

El Pasado Simple es un tiempo verbal que se utiliza para describir acciones que han sucedido en un tiempo anterior y que ya han finalizado, por ejemplo:
He cleaned his room. El limpió su cuarto.
He broke the window. El
 rompió la ventana.

Usamos el pasado simple para acciones completas en el pasado.  En el pasado simple hay verbos regulares y verbos irregulares.

I lived in Buenaventura.
My father worked  in a restaurant.

Pasado simple de los verbos regulares.

Los verbos regulares son aquellos que forman su pasado (simple y participio) añadiendo el sufijo "-d" (si el verbo ya termina en "e" solo se añade el sufijo "-d").
Ejemplos:
 Walk -     Walked.
Listen  -    listened.
 Like -       liked.
Love-        loved.
Los verbos de una silaba  que finalizan en una vocal + una consonante, doblan la consonante y añaden ed.

Stop-stopped
Con verbos acabados en consonante + y, la y se sustituye por –ied.
Study – studied.

Con verbos que  tengan delante una vocal, acabados en  y se añade ed.
Play- played

DURING
FOR
SINCE

We use during + noun to say when something happens:
during the film - during our holiday - during the night

I fell asleep during the film.
We met a lot of interesting people during our holiday.

We use for + a period of time:
for six years - for two hours - for a week
I’ve lived in this house for six years. They have been watching TV for two hours.

We use since + a period of time:
since April - since 1992 - since 8 o’ clock
It has been raining since one
 o’clock. They’ve known each other since they were at school.


UNTIL
FROM - TO
We use until/till to say how long a situation continues:
Let’s wait until it stops raining. I stayed in bed until half past nine.

We use from - to + beginning and end of a period:
Last evening we watched TV from 5 to 8 o’ clock.
